Some night time videos tests.

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Hello.

Last night there was the opening of Vancouver’s celebration of lights with team USA.
I took this chance to test (yet again) the N900 and N97mini in night conditions.
In both cases, “night mode” looks really bad but that’s cause it should be used with no moving objects, I think :/.
Anyways, here are the results.

Symbian-Guru.com Is “Game Over” :(

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Yesterday we lost another soldier of Nokia to Goggle’s Android, Ricky Cadden.
Ricky of Symbian-Guru.com decided to stop blogging and supporting Nokia, This is very sad since he was a great deal of sources and info about Nokia.

I agree with most of the things Ricky writes on hes “fare well” post to Symbian-Guru.com, Nokia is in big trouble in north America and has almost zero market share here (I’m in Vancouver, Canada) and almost zero effort is being put to change that, web services are also kind of a bad things since not much works there (Talking about Ovi, except Ovi files, which I use a lot and I’m sure doesn’t work for someone somewhere else) .

I do hope that the  real fight that starts now will change things.

One thing I do not agree at all with Ricky is about the hardware, Nokia is one of the best hardware manufactures in the world. Hardware was never Nokia’s problem, the problem Nokia always had is software, if its web services or cellphone OSs.
Today (and in the next year) with Symbian ^3/4 and Meego, I do hope it will get better :) , me being a proud owner of a Maemo 5 powered device (N900) I can see its going in the right direction.
Nokia, I still love you :-)

Goodbye Ricky, it was a pleasure reading your Symbian blog and good luck in your regular tech blog.

The Wind plan I took

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Here are the details of the plan I took with “Wind Mobile Canada“:

In voice plans I took “Chat“, 1st’ 6 months are half price :-)
In Data I took unlimited “Infinite Mobile ”
And added unlimited text for Canada & the USA.

So, each month will be $55CAN (after the 6 months of half price voice plan, that is), that’s is not a bad deal to include unlimited data!.

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Hello all.

I switched my cellphone provider to “Wind Mobile” over the weekend, for now reception is okay, some black spots here and there but overall I did not see any major reception errors… so me Happy.

I know I didn’t but it’s awesome!

I know that since the new N900 update I didn’t install anything that does it, so having notifications in the unlock screen must be a new thing, it’s awesome !!!, LOVE IT.

Some of the things I like in the new N900 firmware

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Hi, here are some of the things I like at the new N900 firmware update:

  • I like the fact that there is no “More” at the menu and that you can edit the menu, at last :) .
  • Facebook chat in include in the new firmware. I like it cause the only thing I do with facebook is the chat through my mobile, I rarely go to the actual website.
  • Update all” button is now visible at the software update section, before it was hidden at the upper menu.
  • I like the new “something is playing” icon in the lower right screen of the media player :)
  • I like the new onscreen keyboard layout.
  • I like the fact that you can send files via blue tooth directly from the file browser.
  • I love the long press on a key will give the func’ key of the pressed key.
  • I like the new look to the conversations window that shows what type of conversation it was

I’ll try to think of new things :) .
That’s it for now :)

The weirdest funnest bug for N900

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

So I was working on my N900, texting away and all of the sudden, that happens from time to time, I got a phone call but on the same sec I got a text too.
I’m pretty sure that this is not why it happened, but maybe, anywho… my phone app is set to be on portrait mode and when the phone ended… the N900 decided to stay on portrait mode.
I know some people tried and succeed on doing so, but in my case it was a bug, not a code “trial and error”….
I like it though, got to admit.

Anyways, my friend with hes N900 wasn’t around, so I borrowed two other phones to take a movie of the bug with, the 1st’ Nokia E71 and the 2nd’ was Google’s Nexus one.
Here is the bug with all its glory, by the way, the only way it ended was when I got a another call in, after that one ended, it went back to “normal”… :)

A small script I wrote to help me out

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Hello :)

If you remember my old post where I’m showing a way to kill the jpgs that sometimes are being added (who knows why) to the photo library although the cover art should not be shown there, I wrote this small script to help me out with it, I wrote it a while ago but just now got to post about it :P .
Its a stupid small python script that I’m sure can be better written :P , it does the job though :-)

The easiest way would be to open it through PyGTKEditor, and run it from there, that way you could also edit the folder that it runs in, I use ‘/home/user/MyDocs/.sounds’
Of course you might have ur mp3s in a different folder and actually might not have my problem with cover art showing in your photo library :P .

Here is the code:

Hope it helps…

That’s it for now, later :-)
