Update.. at last :)

Filed under E71, E75, Nokia General

Hi all…

Well, aperantly all I had to do for the “Nokia software update” update  installation to work on windows7 was to run it in a XP SP3 mode.

Last Friday, the Nokia pc suite was released for Windows7, I’m sure the support for “Nokia software update” Windows7 is not too far to come along.

After doing this I was able to update me old E71 to firmware v.300.21.012 WooHoo
Its not that I’m using the E71, still with the amazing E75, but still fun and good news when you update your device, even if its an old one…

Some update issues…

Hi all,

Long time, sorry, I didn’t have much to say, so I decided not to say anything :p.

I’ll start by saying that I’m running Windows 7 and can not update my Nokia software update for some reason….

e71update_03

Now, Its been a while, I mean a LONG while since I opened my old E71 and I noticed there was an update V300.21.012 , you can see it right in Noki’sa website:

However, in Ovi suite, still no update to an unlocked 3G version of the phone in Canada, whenhooo when Nokia will drop this region crap of updates ???….

Switch update.

Hi all.

If you remember, I posted a fail on the “switch” software on the E75.
Last night, I had to hard reset my E75 (using *#7370# code), it got lots of weird bugs and got slower, much slower, not sure what caused it but I had to do something about it and I did.
After the reset, I used the Switch software to transfer contacts and calendar entries back to the E75 from my beloved E71 and it worked well, my guess is that something in the system files got corrupted.

That’s all, just a small update.

Ovi store in Canada, sure, why not.

Of course, that didn’t happen yet, why would it….
I just tried both my E75 & E71 with refreshing content in ‘Download!’ and nothing, no Ovi store yet.

Come on Nokia, we want Ovi Store up here.

The E71 and its big brother the E75!

Filed under E71, E75, Eseries News, Nokia General, xPressMusic 5800

Hi all.
sorry its been a while since my last post.

I want to tell you a small story, not long ago, about 2 weeks ago,
I went to visit home in a country far far away (about 20h’ flight
from Vancouver). While I was there I must say I just loved my E71
and the use of Nokia messaging 1.1. Since Hotmail is my main email
client using messaging 1.1 was just too good to be true. Have both
thing, the E71 and this software, the use & need for a laptop went
straight to zero as far as I’m concern. Another cute thing was the
native YouTube application that was launched by YouTube, having that
made my phone much more fun to use and show off with :p .

On the way back from home, I went through Heathrow airport and just
could not resist to buy the brand new E75, this device, well, how can
I say it…. Just perfect in functionality, I mean it, its amazing!.
I know that since I got the Euro version I’m losing the option for 3G
here in north America, I didn’t really care since the only actual functionality
I’m losing is the video calling, which I must admit is…. ‘who cares’.

Here is my ‘Got to hate‘ list of the E75:

1. The numeric keypad is too tight, I mean instead of making a huge
‘Nokia’ logo above the screen, they could have shrink it a bit,
or make the screen a bit higher than there would be more space
for the keypad.
2. I’m left handed, meaning every time I pick the E75 i press the
dedicated camera button, don’t get me wrong, I love that button
on an E series, I just think its location should have been a bit lower.
3. The earpiece and speakerphone are a bit too low in volume, but this
can be fixed with a firmware update.
4. The E71 came with a hand strap and a small, nice & simple case, its
too bad its big brother, the E75 is lacking both in the box.
The E71 is coming with microSD card of 8GB, for the price I paid
for the ‘big brother’ I must say I didn’t except less, only 4GB for
this device and its capabilities is too little.
5. S60 SP2, in the menus, there is no indication if an icon is a folder
or an application, kind of VERY annoying i must say. Once again,
my usual complain about S60 is the lack of timer & stopwatch.

Here is my ‘Got to love‘ list of the E75:

1. 3.5m’m jack for headphone and the fact that its working with the
N series remote control.
2. Slide out high quality & spaced QWERTY keyboard.
3. Camera key.
4. Ngage gaming.
5. Full sensor range, I mean this thing got the three sensors
I like most: GPS, accelerometer & light sensor, with these
three you can do, ask & get a lot from the device.
6. Nokia messaging is fully integrated with the device, making mailing über easy.
7. S60 SP2, just like the xPressMusic 5800, makes this device a bit
faster and that the clock is always visible (when I was beta testing
thing for Nokia, I remember asking for this and glad to see Nokia are taking
every little input)
8. USB charching…. ThnX, its about time.
9. Bright screen, nicer & faster gallery.
10. For what the E75 is caring inside its very small and does not feel too
big in the pocket.
11. When I 1st’ picked it up it felt super solid in the hand and the
build quality was good, the way it feels means a lot to me personally,
so that feeling helped a lot with my decision of purchasing it.

Up to last week I had three devices at home, the E71, E75 & XpressMusic
5800. This week I sold my XM5800 since I must say I just didn’t like much
but not because of the why its working but for the lack of only one thing,
the fast search, the ability to start typing a name in the home screen and
get intimidate feedback with contacts and options like send text message,
missing that as far as I was concern was a deal barker plus now I have the
same music options and remote controlling the music player capability
from the E75, I saw no reason to keep the XM5800.

Me writing this on my E75 can only say one thing, Its worth it…
Later.. :)

Daniel.

Rogers does it again

Hi All.

A very disturbing thing happened lately with my device and Rogers, my Canadian carrier.
Its not enough that Rogers best 3G offer  these days is 30$CAN for 1GB’ of data. I have the unlocked, sim free E71 (came back to it after trying the XM5800, its just too good).
Rogers are selling this device with their own web browser, lately, when I’m trying to to go to youtube.com, I get a very weird and disturbing message, saying I NEED their own
browser to watch youtube (Image 1), I followed the links (images 2-4) and of course, got nowhere, meaning they are screening the website, blocking it and not allowing me to watch it through the Rogers 3G connection !!!.
Rogers, do have attentions to take over the internet ?, why block it, who said i need to use your web browser ?, I did not purchased this device through you.

I went to a Rogers retailer, they, of course could not help out and asked me to call the Tech support so I did and they answer was something like:
“..Hhmmm.. of course, because your device can not show youtube, we giving you the option to watch it with our own software
because youtube app can’t display it cannot display it…”
I explained about 3 times that I’m not using and external app, just the regular browser, the guy told me that it is not supported
by E71 and that he is well trained with this device.
WHAT?, REALLY?, its weird that for people that sell cellphones, they know NOTHING about them!!.
After several min’ of arguing with him, I gave up, there is no one to talk to in Rogers.
I wanted to record it, but they said they will not talk to me if it did, hooo.. I wish you could hear it!.

Rogers, get a grip and remove internet redirecting.. its NOT you’rs !, shame on you for trying to force your own software, you are a GSM carrier, people will always
have unlocked phones and expecting their carrier to give the best service.
Rogers, you are the biggest carrier in Canada, grow up, you do not need to compete with anyone nor change Nokia’s great web browser!
